The first and most important thing that you need to learn is value. If you want to learn how to become an antique picker this is very important. If you do not know what something is worth when you buy it, how the heck can you know if you are getting a good deal or not.

A good place to start is at your local antique shops. Pick a few places close to where you live and browse. You will get a good idea what things sell for and what is hot.

Get to know the shop owner, you can pick his or her brain for whats selling right now. After you leave jot down some notes on what you saw, prices and such... We are just getting a feel for things right now.

After you get an idea on whats hot, drive colse to your local area and keep on the look out for old houses or barns that might have items you are on the hunt for. This is just one way to find antiques.

Antiquing or junking as it is also known can be hard work but is also lots of fun. Other places to find items to buy are at household auctions,storage auctions, stable sales and the internet.

Try to specialize in distinct items and certainly learn about them, you will become an expert in no time.

After you buy a few items go back to your local antique shops and see if they might be curious in your new finds. If they are not, you can sell them on eBay or other online auctions.

There are many other pieces of the puzzle for antique pickers to learn, this is just the start. Read all you can about antiques and collecting and you will have a good start.
